Our Senior Pastor and TeacherHe is a resident of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Married to Dr. Teresa P. Black, they are blessed with two daughters, Lady Crystal B. Meadows along with her husband, Pastor Christopher Meadows of Moore, South Carolina and Kelli B. King along with her husband, Justin King of Richmond, Virginia. Their only son, RaShaun Haywood went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 1996. Their four grandchildren are truly gifts from heaven; Cristina Meadows and Christian "C.J." Meadows; Jaysean King and Jayden King. The 10th child of 13 children born to Effie Smith Black and the late Perrin Black, Sr. of Spartanburg, Dr. Black has always had the rearing from Godly parents and the nurturing of the Spirit of Truth in a strong, family-valued setting all of his life. Dr. Black earned his Associate Degree from Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in May 1975. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting in May 1977 from Limestone College, Gaffney, South Carolina. He earned his Master's Degree in Pastoral Studies from Covington Theological Seminary, Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia in July 2009. He also earned his Doctoral Degree in Pastoral Studies at Covington on July 27, 2012. He is also a 2012 graduate of the Grassroots Leadership Development Institute through the Spartanburg County Foundation. Dr. Black is also a member of the Spartanburg Public Safety Department of Chaplains. Dr. Black received his calling on the ministry of preaching God's Word and delivered his first gospel message on April 19, 2000 at Bethel Baptist Church in Gaffney, South Carolina and was licensed under his pastor-the late Dr. J.W. Sanders, Sr. He later accepted pastoralship at Holy Temple Baptist Church, Cowpens, South Carolina in September 2003. After laboring with the Holy Spirit, Dr. Black is now here at New Salem Zion Baptist Church, where He serves as Senior Pastor. Dr. Black's philosophy is to bring glory to God and to always point His children up to God--who is the "source of his strength". Dr. Black is in the process of bringing New Salem Zion to the point of "Total Outreach" within the Pacolet and surrounding communities--to reach all mankind--to bring everyone to a point of trusting God "Fully". NSZBC is blessed to have such a "Strong Man of God" to lead us in Truth and Righteous.
