Our Pastor's Wife and Assistant Pastor

Dr.Teresa P. Black is a gifted musician, singer, vocal teacher and song writer, dynamic preacher of the gospel and loves to promote excellence in the things of God. She is the eldest of six children born to Mrs. Bessie T. Proctor and the late Hubert Proctor, Sr. of Gaffney, South Carolina. She was joined in holy matrimony to Dr. Larry D. Black in May 1978 and from this union they were blessed with 3 children; Lady Crystal B. Meadows and her husband, Pastor Christopher Meadows of Moore, South Carolina, RaShaun Haywood, who went home to be with the Lord in February 1996, and Kelli B. King and her husband, Justin King of Richmond, Virginia. She and Dr. Black are blessed with their "pride and joy" of four grandchildren; Cristina and C.J. Meadows; Jaysean and Jayden King. Dr.Teresa was licensed to preach in June 1988 at Bethel Baptist Church, Gaffney, South Carolina by her pastor, the late Dr. J.W. Sanders, Sr. She was ordained in March, 2006 through the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association in Gaffney, South Carolina under the leadership of her husband. She attended Limestone College in 1975, majoring in Music Education, then decided to pursue a career in Nursing, in which she has been a nurse for over 30 years. She is employed with the Medical Group of the Carolinas Family Medicine in Duncan, SC (an affiliate with Spartanburg Medical Center). She earned an Associate Degree(2011) as well as a Bachelor's Degree (2013) in Religious Education from Covington Theological Seminary in Fort Oglethrope, Georgia: this step in her life is made possible as she is ordained to work along side her husband in their ministry. She also earned her Master's degree on July 25, 2014 from Covington. She recently earned a doctoral degree on July 29, 2016 in Religious Education from Covington. Here at New Salem Zion, Dr. Teresa serves as Assistant Pastor, also heads up the Sisters of Royalty Ministry, which bring women together to "speak what's on their minds" and teach them to let God "totally" work it out on their behalf. She is also Director of the Music Ministry, Healthcare Ministry Advisor and one of the F.A. C. T. S Academy teachers. Dr. Teresa has preached along side her husband at various places throughout the East Coast and loves to preach Good Tidings to a lost world--to compel men, women, boys and girls to come on the Lord's side.
Her favorite passage of scripture: Proverbs 3.
